On this project we worked in partnership with the landowner’s to achieve planning permission for seventy-one houses on a ten acre site that was allocated in the Local Plan for a maximum of forty houses.
We had to demonstrate to Mendip District Council that, with correct analysis of the environmental constraints, and careful attention to mitigation measures, the limitation of 40 houses was inappropriate. Following lengthy consultation with local stakeholders we gained the total support of Ward Councillors, the Glastonbury Town Council, Chair of the Planning Committee and the Lord Mayor who spoke to support our planning at the planning committee meeting.
The planning committee resolved to grant planning for 70 houses, which resulted in a substantially higher financial return to the landowner’s, and significant benefit to the local community, which received a planning gain package that included affordable housing, highway improvements, etc.
